Rolf Jacob Sartorius was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was taken to Virginia in search of adoption after his parents became ill and were not able or willing to care for him. Adoptive parents took him to live within Reston, Virginia. He was performing in musicals by age 7. Vine the American website that hosts short-form videos as a service, was closed in 2017. Sartorius posted lip-syncing videos on Vine with more than eight millions followers by August 2016. Social media provided him with an escape when he was harassed and then ended up being a victim. In the past, he would say that prior to Musical.ly in the beginning, he was not the most social. He was sure that no one watched him other than the camera.
